Now the light, she fades
And darkness settles in
But we will find strength
We will find pride within
Because although she dies
Her voices will go on
Though she dies, our affection
Lives on.
Mary Kay was born in Los Angeles on June 5, 1961. She attended Van Ness Avenue Elementary School, Le Conte Jr. High and Hollywood High, graduating with top academic honors. Immediately after high school, she was accepted to UCLA and became a theater arts major there for three years, but after getting cast in an Equity-waiver play outside of school, she decided to leave school. She got an agent for on-camera commercials and film and TV and studied privately with acting coach Harry Mastrogeorge for several years. There were exciting nibbles (including a call-back for the cast of Saturday Night Live), but nothing happened. At a party, she sang as a karaoke machine played, and her talent inspired a co-worker to ask het to take voice lessons with his teacher, Ms. Kat Lehman. She did, and loved it. Years later, she returned the young man's favor, landing him his first voice-over job. Mary Kay continued taking voice-over workshops for the next two years, studying with most of the top teachers, including Lou Hunt (commercials; he helped prepare and edit Mary Kay's first demo tape), Joannie Gerber (commercials), Sue Blu and Andrea Romano (animation voice over), Kathy Levin (commercials), Dick Orkin (commercials), Mickie McGowan (looping/ADR) and Cathy Segal-Garcia (singing). She worked as an actress for 14 years, 12 of those doing voice-overs. She eventually succeeded Adriana Caselotti, her neighbor and idol, as the voice of Snow White for Disney.
Over the years she experienced irrational fears that began to consume her. On the morning of November 11, 1999 she did a radio talk show celebrating Disneyland's 45th Anniversary. That evening she left two notes, one for husband Dino and one for friend John Bell, and shot herself in the head. The notes say that she could no longer handle the fear. Her site became a guestbook for a while, with many visitors praising her work.
Since her passing, the original site has been restored. The only change on it is that the Webmaster handles the e-mails now.
Below is her oeuvre.

| About "Pretty Fly For a Rabbi":
"Originally I had Mary Kay come in to sing the whole song. I basically wanted her to do the voice of Kyle’s mom from South Park. Her agent wouldn’t let her do it (thinking that it might get her in trouble with Comedy Central) -- so Mary Kay wound up doing kind of a squeaky voice instead. Later, I decided that the "squeaky voice" thing really wasn’t what I was looking for, so I called in my old friend, Tress [MacNeille], to do her Fran Drescher impersonation instead. The part that you can still hear Mary Kay on is the line in the middle of the song where she does the very Gentile-sounding "for a Rab-bi ..." Mary Kay was an incredibly sweet, talented, funny, wonderful woman, and we all miss her very, very much."
