The Secrets of
"The New Terrance and Phillip Movie Trailer"

by Wild Willie Westwood, with sources from all over the Web

The Russell Crowe show spoofs "Teletubbies" (in its graphics showing rays of sunlight behind a globe), "Steamboat Willie" (Russell spinning the ship's wheel), "The Crocodile Hunter," the Popeye cartoons (Popeye would often end up in fights, as sailors were wont to do) ...and Theodore Tugboat (ty Pepsilover78)

One of the dock pilings is clearly visible in its entirety.

Wild man Crowe did this to me, says fan.

Thsi article reveals that Russell Crowe has a friend named Craig "Tugger" Coleman, a coach. And the tugboat and the coach each has a whistle.

The hype over the Asses of Fire II trailer spoofs the hype over the Star Wars Episode Two: Attack of the Clones trailer

"Tianinman Square" — Tiannanmen Square, where one Chinese soldier took a stand before a line of tanks and stopped them for quite a while. Student protests for democracy were tolerated, but soon stopped.

WD = WB

The feel of this episode is the same as that of "Death."

"the MacNeil/Lehrer Report" — "the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour" which lasted for 20 years before Robert MacNeil left on October 20, 1995. Jim Lehrer still hosts the show, the "Jim Lehrer NewsHour".

The resolutions offered by the menus on Chef's TV are two narrow, even for normal TVs.

This is a self-referential episode. I could imagine Trey and Matt acting like Russell Crowe around their editors.

The walking TV sort of looks like ED209 from RoboCop. This was used before, in "KORN's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery"

One of the crack addicts is the bum from "Ike's Wee Wee" and SP:BLU. The bum appears to have gone for harder drugs, as he was smoking just a joint before. But we won't be seeing him again. Chef's TV killed him.

"Shady Acres" — A throwback to Sunny Pastures, the retirement home Trey and Matt made some intros in for VHS Wave 4, released September 28, 1999.

When Russeell Crowe shows up to beat up the editor, the screen on the editor's monitor shows Russell Crowe fighting the Yanagapa from "Rainforest Schmainforest." Also, a real-life picture is on a monitor in another window, but it soon disappears. Charles Song reveals it to be Dean Cain (inside joke).

The doctor looks like the one from "Cartmanland", the one who saw Kyle at Hell's Pass Hospital.

Cartman was carrying doughnuts all the while, so why he should have wanted doughnuts and then decided to leave them at home when the boys were headed back to Stan's house is odd.

Cartman drops a doughnut when the boys are running from house to house, but the direction they run to changed from Wednesday to Saturday.

The torrent of blood that throws the boys back into the street comes from The Shining.

Looks to me like Stan was the one who wanted to see the Terrance & Phillip trailer the most. Every time he thought it would be on his voice would be full of anticipation.

In this episode, "Puppies from Around the World" is on another channel when Russell Crowe's show is on at HBC. But in the following episode "Puppies from Around the World" is airing on HBC. What gives? Or, if you saw then in the order aired, you'll wonder why Russell Crowe's show replaced "Puppies from Around the World," sending it to a competing network.

Phillip is shown laughing, but there's no sound of laughter.

No matter what he does next, Chef has to press "menu," then "function."
