The Secrets of
"Red Sleigh Down"

by Wild Willie Westwood, with sources from all over the Web

Returning characters and cameos: Cousin Kyle, Chef's parents, the Underpants Gnomes; Jesus, Santa and Mr. Hankey;

(4312-3)/306 = 14.08 presents per bad act.

The boys express reservations at having to go on a poochoo train to get to the North Pole because of the stench they'd have to endure all the way up there. Maybe this is the start of their outgrowing Mr. Hankey, much as kids outgrow other childhood beliefs, like Peter Pan, Santa Claus, etc.

"Perhaps Santa could bring peace to this whole situation." - Peace in the Middle East is something everyone wants, but which is impossible to attain... without supernatural help. For those of you who don't believe in that, peace in the Middle East will never come.

The "Fortress of Solitude" comes from the Superman movies. But if that were indeed a fortress of solitude, you would not find elves or gnomes working there.

The Haibo robot Cartman wanted is reminiscent of Neopets and Tamagotchi, which were little gadgets you had to "nourish", "love", and other things meant to make you more responsible, and those harken back to the eggs young teens would take home and treat like babies for a while as part of Health or Sex Ed. But the immediate reference is to the Aibo toy robot dog, which has been around for a few years now.

How was Cartman able to stretch his arms so wide to hug his friends? And why were his gloves missing when he did this? (In the preview he was weearing his yellow gloves)

Lines from "Frosty" used in this episode

"Thanks to you there's not gonna be any Christmas, and there's no one left to help us!"
"Oh, Christ."
"Jesus!"

Jesus tells the blind man that he's healed, yet the blind man is led away without any apparent improvement in sight.

"Jesus, mio bambino no puoi sentirsi." should be "Jesus, mio bambino no puņ sentirsi."

Jesus as Rambo, or Rambo Jesus. :)

In the torture scenes, "my main man" comes from Three Kings, while Santa cursing the Iraqi general comes from Lethal Weapon.

Black Hawk Down is parodied when Santa's sleigh goes down like a crippled helicopter and everyone who was on the ground clears out.

Stan and Kyle used the lines on Jesus that they usually reserved for Kenny when Kenny died weekly.

Santa's sleigh comes with a dashboard. Gotta keep up with the times. :)

RPG = rocket-propelled grenade

Santa uses a dark metallic automatic gun with silencer when he shoots his torturer dead. After Jesus directs everyone to move out, Santa turns and he's holding a bright pistol.

The Iraqi kids' facial expressions when they get gifts for the first time match those of kids in various Rankin/Bass animated features when they get gifts. The boys' facial expressions match them as well for the brief moment they marvel at their gifts.

"Christmas is ruined again!" - from
